Indian Ringneck Parakeets

Indian Ringneck Parakeets are beautiful and intelligent creatures. They have gorgeous long tails and as a result, need a large cage to accommodate it. Males develop a ring around their necks when they reach maturity. They come in all sorts of color mutations and can live up to 30 years.

Indian Ringnecks make great pets. They are eager to learn tricks and can learn to speak very clearly, learning up to 250 words. Indian Ringnecks are very playful and need lots of love and attention daily to remain tame and gentle. Young birds may go through what is called a 'bluffing stage', where they test their limits. Positive reinforcement and maintaining a gentleness with them will ensure they come through it and become a gentle pet. They can be loud when they vocalize their native bird call.
Indian Ringnecks are not known to be very cuddly birds, but ones that are lovingly and gently raised can be quite cuddly- liking head scratches and petting.
